- 3.Run through your shot
Technique
- Frame the goal with hips and shoulders
- Toe down, ankle locked
- Plant foot pointing at the goal
- Strike through the middle of the ball for a straight shot
- Strike the top half to keep a bouncing or dropping ball low
- See your foot strike the ball
- Land on the foot you strike with
- Follow through towards the target
- Upper body weight forward — chest like a third eye over the ball
Decisions
- Look up to pick the target, then down to shoot
- Quick glance at the near post — if there's space, go there; if not, go far. Don't look at both
- First touch out of your feet
- Choose the surface of the foot that suits the shot
- Strike while moving forward — run through your shot
- Shoot in stride; only add small adjusting steps if you have time
Under pressure
- Arms out to protect your space
- Shield the ball with the plant foot; shoot with the foot away from a side-on defender
Variety of shots
- Driven, chip, pass into the corner, bending, outside of the foot, one touch, two touch, headed, volleyed
