Session Framework & Practice Design

Training should look like football.

Chapter Purpose

Every training session at Eleftheria Pancyprian SC should be intentionally planned, development-focused, and aligned with the club philosophy. Our practices are designed to develop intelligent footballers through realistic football situations that challenge players technically, tactically, physically, and psychologically.

The Eleftheria Session Philosophy

Training should look like football. We avoid isolated activities that have little transfer to the game. Every exercise should require players to think, communicate, make decisions, and solve problems under realistic pressure.

Session One — Technical Development & Small-Sided Games

The first training session of the week focuses on individual technical development through game-based learning. Players should receive hundreds of touches on the ball while solving football problems in realistic environments.

  1. 1Technical Activation: Ball Mastery, Running with the Ball, First Touch, Passing & Receiving, Turning, Finishing
  2. 2Individual Challenges: 1v1, 2v1
  3. 3Small Group Challenges: 2v2, 3v2, 3v3
  4. 4Game-Based Learning: 4v4, 5v4, 6v4, 6v5
  5. 5Conditioned Match: U7–U8 (4v4), U9–U10 (7v7), U11–U12 (9v9)

Guided Questions for Technical Sessions

  • Which surface gives you the most control?
  • Can you keep the ball closer?
  • How can you protect the ball?

First Touch

Session Two — Tactical Development

The second training session focuses on collective understanding. Players learn where to stand, why they stand there, and how to solve problems together.

  1. 1Phase 1: Position Understanding
  2. 2Phase 2: Unit Play
  3. 3Phase 3: Attack vs Defense (3v2, 4v3, 5v4, 7v6, 9v8)
  4. 4Phase 4: Team Play in age-appropriate formats (4v4, 7v7, 9v9)
  5. 5Phase 5: Match with minimal coach intervention

The Eleftheria Coaching Principle

"Every training session should answer one question: What does the game need? Players should learn to recognize the problem, evaluate their options, and choose the best solution independently."
